The DISCARD Deck

What's the No. 1 reason for losing a game? Your opponent's spells defeat you! This deck keeps your enemy's cards out of her hand, leaving her sans offense or defense. In most games, it's slow, but once it gets its foot in the door, you're in. Here's how to play it.

IN THE BEGINNING
Cast what you can to make your opponent drop cards. A crucial spell or land lost at this point could cripple her. Even if she's got a creature out and you want one too, even if she's got an artifact you want to Disenchant, cast Hymn to Tourach instead.

AS THE GAME GETS UNDERWAY
Unless you have Racks out ,use the Mindstab Thrulls and Gwendlyn for attack damage, instead of dropping cards. Don't cast your creature and artifact elimination, direct damage and counterspells until you must. Play your spells defensively to protect your cards.
Keep spells like Cursed Rack and Storm World for just the right circumstance; if they don't exist, cast other cards instead.

VARIANT DECK CONSTRUCTION
Substitute dual lands for artifact mana that you lack. Creatures, discarding spells, and racks are essential. Mix and match the complementary spells (which are mainly direct damage and counterspells), but keep an even spread for diversity.

The LAND'S EDGE Deck

This deck concentrates on slicing your opponent with a barrage of razor-sharp lands. The two key cards are Land's Edge and Land Tax. Everything else is just there to make the deck competitive.

HOW IT WORKS
Simple: let your opponent get more lands than you. and use the Land Tax to stock up on basic lands. If you get a Library of Leng out, go for three lands a turn. Use the Serra and Lightning Bolts for efficient damage, and keep your opponent's creatures at bay with Swords to Plowshares and Wrath of God. When you've got several lands in your hand, throw down a Land's Edge and slam your opponent with all those excess lands in your hand.

VARIANT DECK CONSTRUCTION
There're plenty of ways to make this deck. All you really need are Land's Edge, Land Tax, and Library of Leng. The rest is completely arbitrary. Just remember that you should never have more than five lands in play — less if you can get away with it.

The GOBLIN Deck

When a good Goblin deck gets under way, it offers you all the best attributes of creature-oriented decks: low casting costs, high power and toughness, universal landwalking thanks to Blood Moon, and the ability to swarm. The trick is to get this combination going, which takes some patience...

IN THE BEGINNING
Get your goblins out as fast as you can. Take incoming damage instead of blocking suicidaly. Cast Blood Moon it it'll cripple your opponent, but don't bother if she's playing red or in a big chaos game (everyone will attack you). Don't cast Goblin Shrines if everything you've got out has one toughness.

AS THE GAME GETS UNDERWAY
Cast Goblin King and Blood Moon the same turn, if possible, to make your creatures suddenly unblockable. Use the Goblin Warrens on your opponent's turn so you can attack with them on your turn, or sacrifice Goblins to the Warrens after they've blocked incoming creatures. Gauntlet of Might gives you extra powers for the Warrens. Pump odd mana into the Goblin Balloon Brigade or take the burn.

DECK CONSTRUCTION
Don't have a GoM? Put in Chaos Moon, but be careful. Take out white if you want to trim down the deck, but beware Justice, COP: Red, and other antired cards; it'S better to trim the Goblin Aides. Bigger creatures like the Goblin Mutant may suit your style, but they're not for this deck. It's slightly undermanaed, which is OK since you're mostly red.
